i searched and didnt find a thread here about tuning dwell, so i thought i'd share a little love in case any of you might be interested in fine-tuning your markers. i know a lot of you guys here have seen this on other sites, but for those who are not familiar then below is a link to an instructional worksheet that can help. additionally, i have posted my results below to illustrate the gains that can be had by using this tuning method.
everything you need to know is contained within the spreadsheet in the following link: Dwell Sweet Spot Tuning Guide Markerjunky and I tuned our respective markers today - his Droid and my DM6 - and for me the results were significant and certainly worth the time and paint i invested in completing this exercise. the stock dwell setting on my DM6 is 18ms, so starting there i shot three paintballs out to clear it and then a few more over the chrono to ensure that i was shooting ~280fps. from there, i popped off 20 consecutive shots, calling out the chrono result to MJ as he recorded each shot velocity in the worksheet. after each group of 20 shots, i lowered the dwell by 1ms (my UL board wont do increments lower than 1ms), popped off three shots to clear the marker, and recorded the next group's results. here are my summary results for each group (20 shot average FPS/dwell setting): 18ms..........282.3fps 17ms..........284.8fps 16ms..........284.2fps 15ms..........282.8fps 14ms..........279.1fps 13ms..........272.3fps when the FPS dropped precipitously in that last group, shooting with a dwell of 13ms, i dialed the dwell back up to 14ms and now i am good. this exercise resulted in a 20+% reduction in my dwell time, which should translate into a noticeable efficiency gain. considering that the DM6 is not exactly known for its efficient use of air, this will be a big plus for me in shots per tank.

G, you are the man!
I have read many times this TUNING GUIDE but I just couldn't picture it in my head. That is until I just read your post. Rep for you! I think anyone who does this with their Mini should post up their results just like how he did above me.

hahaha.... i appreciate the compliment, Tigar! this guide is good for any marker where the board allows for adjustable dwell. it would be interesting to see other results, too.

Thanks for the post. I havent done this to my inverts but I may tinker with them to see if it makes any difference.

it really made a difference with my DM, bro. about a 23% gain in efficiency which should yield at least an additional full hopper from my 56/4500.

Good post G. I saw this worksheet and just never got around to using it. Glad someone else did and found it to be really helpful. I may have to try it with my Ego now.

I've already done my Mini once, but the battery went dead for long enough that my board reset and I can't remember what exactly my settings were. Gonna go to the shop and do this again one of these days when I get a free moment.
