I can't find a used mini I like so I'm gonna buy new. Should I buy a mini or an axe?

Step 1 - Try to hold each one and go with the one that feels more comfortable.
Step 2 - If you can't afford the Axe, then get the Mini unless you decided on the Mini in Step 1.

Steps 3&4 - Post up pics of what you bought and tell us what you think and if you're thinking about upgrades (even though not really needed).

I agree with what Tigar said. I currently own both a mini and axe and there is a definite size difference between the two markers.
