Bad Karma just hosted our fourth event this weekend and I wanted some honest feedback. While I'd love to hear the good and bad of our own event, I'd also like to hear from the general masses. What do you REALLY like in a scenario event? I want to see some specific examples. Yes, we like to see competent refs who know their job and take it seriously. Yes, we want excellent sportsmanship so we don't need to worry about playing on and overshooting. But these are things that should be at EVERY event of any type. I want to know the little things that really make or break an event for you. Do you crave a lot of action to keep your trigger finger busy? Do you have to have storyline to follow? Do you like complex objectives that take serious planning? Are large crowds you thing? I really want some feedback here.

I recently attended West Point's Combat Classic and the one thing that really made their scenario event stand is something that is probably unique to them. They had cadets on the field firing real belt-fed machine guns, different colored smoke canisters, and toped it off with artillery simulations that shook the ground. It really added to the experience of American Special Forces entering Panama to capture Noriega. Maybe a recording of machine gun fire over a PA system or through a bull horn is something you could introduce to add that bit of realism to the event.
I find that the more complex the game is, the more complex the rules are which leads a lot of times to confusion. It should be interesting and can have sub-plots but I think you need to ere on the side of simplicty. Things you don't normally see also make a scenario event "special." Things such as Tanks or other props like force fields or colored smoke to indicate a chemical attack so you better put your gas mask (dust mask) on. I think it's better to have too many than to have too few players because a large number of potential targets makes it different than your normal game, IMO. However, your event could have everything including Stallone making a guest appearance but if your referees suck (lack of a better word) then the experience is lost I might not want to return.

Organization is important, so are refs, sides need to have good leaders that understand the objectives. If theres confusion, it usually gets ugly. Tanks, smokes, 'nades, nerf's and artillery make them 100% funner. It just adds to the experience.
(just for example... Battlefront in Hubbard OH had a "Battle of Hoth" game in January, since there was about 3ft of snow on the ground they let the Rebels build their own snow forts before the game started.) it all boils down to the little things here and there that can take a game and make it an experience.
