Way to go Melonhead! Now I need to find a small bottle of the stuff to pack in my Mini toolbox.

Just get one of those travel shampoo bottles from wally world to put some in. That way you'll also have a little bit of a spout on it as well.

Since nobody else suggested this, and since I am a Robotics Technician who deals with electronic boards on a daily basis that tend to attract dirt, dust, corrosives, and more everyday.... I would suggest contact cleaner.
It works better, faster, and is made for such things. You can buy it at Radio Shack and several other places for a few bucks. Also keep in mind that using a Q-Tip or an equivalent applicator can leave fibers behind which may result in that area becoming hot and burning/shorting out the board. It doesn't take much to cause a board to overheat and burn out (please understand that while the odds are extremely high, it could happen). I've seen all sorts of 1:1,000,000,000 things happen at work, so always use caution. One last thing, make sure you remove the battery to avoid a potential short from the alcohol completing a wrong circuit.

Ill give a little rep 4 that. Update on my board: it stopped working again, but i used some more on it, and clicked it for longer, then put some on it, and left it to sit upside down on a piece of papertowel, and there was a little bit of brown stuff on the paper towel after, i assume dirt got flushed out. Now it works great.

I have just done this myself now after an almighty wet game in scotland!!!
Just went to post up what I did, and hey presto its here. I also dissected the button, its relatively easy to strip clean and reassemble, may have to super glue the metal top plate back on. But this does work. My fix was on a tadao board - the button is identical. |

Glad to hear it my man. The button we dissected had brown stuff down in it as well. I don't think its dirt but corrosion that the alcohol is loosening up and helping it to come out. Thanks for the heads up Invictus. I had thought about the qtip potentially being a problem as well, but I figured since I was just using it to transfer the alcohol from the source to the button instead of actually swabbing it, that it should be ok. But the contact cleaner works better eh? Does it come in a convenient travel size? Cuz I don't think my wife will let me steal her rubbing alcohol to put with my paintball stuff. |

How exactly do you take apart the microswitch? do you need to solder at all? My button only seems to work if i push it to one side and in... >.> Maybe i need to click it more with alcohol on it? lol
